Eye Health
Early detection is key to Prevention
The importance of routine eye care:
Many seek eye care when they are having a vision problem such as blurred vision for distance or
when reading.  What some do not realize is that there are many eye disorders that can be subtle
and without early symptoms.
Glaucoma:
  • Usually has no symptoms
  • Gradual progressive vision loss
  • Detected by intraocular
    pressure, dilated fundus exam,
    visual field testing and nerve
    fiber layer assessment

Dry Eye Syndrome:
13% of adults over 40 years old experience dry eye
syndrome.  Symptoms include burning, tearing, sandy or
gritty feeling or blurred vision.
Treatment includes lubricating eye drops for mild
symptoms.  For chronic dryness eye drops may be
prescribed to control inflammation and increase tear
production and/or plugs inserted to keep tears in the
eyes.
Macular Degeneration:
This is the number one cause of vision loss in
people over 52 years of age.  It is usually a slowly
progressive disorder and can go undetected for a
period of time without comprehensive eye exams.
