We recommend that all children have their eyes checked professionally by age
4. We screen for disorders that can affect a child's performance in school and
proper development of the visual system. Common disorders include excessive
near or farsightedness, binocular abnormality, and amblyopia (lazy eye). Left
untreated, these problems can cause permanent vision difficulty and sight loss.
